Rachel’s nearly ten years of gymnastics coaching experience began in her hometown of Johnson City, Tennessee, where she coached at Appalachian Gymnastics throughout her undergraduate college career. For graduate school, Rachel attended the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, where she competed for the UT Gymnastics Club and earned a Master of Science in Physics. Rachel joined the Capital Gymnastics staff in 2017; she teaches recreational classes, the Xcel teams, and Pre-Team. A gymnast herself for over 15 years, she competed through J.O. Level 7, and her love of the sport kept her training into her late 20s. Nowadays, she prefers to harness her acrobatic abilities through the aerial arts, particularly on the silks; her other interests include hiking, skiing, reading, nature, and cats. Rachel’s favorite thing about coaching gymnastics is watching her athletes gain confidence as they improve and achieve new skills.
Doug has been coaching gymnastics at Capital for 13 years. Prior to his Capital venture, he coached in Tennessee (where he grew up) and California. He started as a girls coach, but transitioned to Men’s Gymnastics where he coached at a State, Regional and National level. One of Doug’s goals was to have one of his gymnast score a perfect 10. This turned out to be one of the highlights of his career as one of his gymnasts DID received a perfect 10 in a State competition. Currently, Doug is the head coach for Capital’s EXCEL program, which he was a catalyst in it being started at Capital. In the 3 years as head coach, he has produced State Champions at the highest level of Diamond. With 28 years total coaching experience, he believes all children should experience gymnastics as it teaches everything about life skills. Doug’s hobbies include taking part in bands and following NASCAR.
