XCEL TEAM TO COMPETE AT FIRST REGIONALS
For the first time in CGNTC history, we are sending athletes from our Xcel Diamond and Platinum teams to represent Capital at the 2019 Regionals. Our ladies of Xcel will be competing the weekend of May 31-June 2, 2019 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
The Xcel Program is a new program at Capital. Xcel is designed to offer a broad-based, affordable competitive experience outside the traditional Jr. Olympic Program to attract and retain a diverse group of athletes (https://www.usagym.org/pages/women/pages/xcel.html). According to Head Coach Doug Nichoalds, the Xcel program is a wonderful opportunity for those gymnasts who do not wish to spend the time or money that it takes to compete in the traditional Jr. Olympic Program. “With Xcel, my girls can get a full competitive experience, complete with challenging routines at every level, without the time and financial commitment of a traditional JO program.”
In the Assistant Coach position of the Xcel teams is coach Rachel Miller. Coach Rachel is originally from Tennessee and is in her second season with CGNTC. Coach Doug has been a coach here for over a decade and has seen his program more than double in the last three years. Coaches Doug and Rachel both anticipate another strong year of growth in their program and are looking forward to experiencing their first Regional competition. The Xcel teams have won numerous team and individual awards this season. Currently, we have teams competing in four of the Xcel Levels; Silver, Gold, Platinum and Diamond. Only the Capital Diamond and Platinum teams are eligible to compete at Regionals this year.
If you see Coach Doug, Coach Rachel or the Xcel athletes around the gym, be sure to wish them good luck at Regionals! We know that they will be Capital Strong.
